When the UNC Charlotte Police Department verifies that a serious incident or series of crimes have occurred on or even off campus and believes it could impact the University Community, we issue an advisory to increase everyone’s awareness and safety and to seek community assistance in locating suspects.
The Mount Holly Police Department is investigating the death of UNC Charlotte student Irina Yarmolenko, who was found deceased next to her car on the bank of the Catawba River in Gaston County at approximately 1:15 PM on Monday, May 5, 2008. The UNC Charlotte Police has been cooperating with the investigation since notification during the evening of May 5th. This advisory has been delayed due to investigative requirements of the Mount Holly Police Department.
Irina Yarmolenko was reportedly last seen leaving Jackson’s Java, a coffee shop located in the Town Centre Plaza on University City Boulevard earlier on Monday, May 5, 2008, at approximately 10:50 AM. It is possible she may have been driving her blue 1998 4-door Saturn (North Carolina tag XRD 5018) that day.
